The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 the International Year of Forests (IYOF). IYOF was a global platform to celebrate people’s actions to sustainably manage the world’s trees and forests. Some objectives were to reverse loss of forest cover and to enhance economic, social and environmental benefits.
The “Celebrate Forests. Celebrate Life.” campaign was the official U.S. celebration. Coordinated by the NASF in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. celebration aimed to elevate awareness and understanding of the value of America’s forests and showcase the connections between healthy forests, people, ecosystems and economies.
